The School of Play Curriculum

Primary School Foundation - Grade Two

Week 27

Week Twenty-Seven brings together movement, kindness, reflection, and cooperation through a collection of fun and uplifting activities. Students begin with Fruit Fun Mover, an energetic game that strengthens agility, quick thinking, and teamwork as they respond to verbal cues and navigate fast-paced seat changes. Treasure Hunt Run keeps the momentum going through active movement and problem-solving, challenging students to work individually or in teams to collect treasures while building their balance, coordination, and strategy. These physically engaging tasks help strengthen both fitness and social interaction, encouraging students to work together and support each other in a fun, inclusive environment.

Balancing the high-energy movement activities are thoughtful kindness and gratitude experiences that build emotional awareness and social connection. My Happy Helpers encourages students to reflect on small acts of kindness and understand the positive impact their actions can have on others. The Thank You Song closes the week with music, joy, and gratitude, giving students a chance to express appreciation in a creative and communal way. Together, this week’s activities help students strengthen their physical skills, deepen their sense of empathy and kindness, and celebrate the importance of working together and supporting one another.

Play Activities

Fruit Fun Mover

Fruit Fun Mover is a lively, fast-paced movement game that gets students thinking quickly, listening carefully, and working together, all while laughing and staying active. Each student is assigned a fruit name, and when their fruit is called, they must spring into action and switch seats before the person in the middle grabs a spot. With constant movement, quick changes, and the excitement of “fruit basket turnover,” students sharpen their focus and reflexes while practising teamwork and cooperation in a playful setting.

The game also strengthens social interaction as students navigate the circle, share moments of fun competition, and support each other in the chaos of quick seat changes. Whether using fruits, animals, or any theme you choose, Fruit Fun Mover brings energy, connection, and joyful movement into the classroom. It’s the perfect energiser to reset the vibe, build engagement, and help students experience teamwork in a fun, inclusive, and active way.

Respectful Relationships

Emotional Literacy & Self-Awareness

This activity supports students in:

  • Recognising their own emotions during fast-paced, high-energy play (excitement, nervousness, anticipation).
  • Noticing how quick decision-making feels in their body, helping them build awareness of self-regulation during movement.
  • Understanding how their reactions and behaviour influence the group’s energy and flow.

Positive Relationships, Empathy & Social Awareness

Students strengthen relationship skills by:

  • Paying attention to others’ actions and movements, fostering awareness of group needs and shared space.
  • Responding respectfully and fairly when competing for seats, supporting positive peer interactions.
  • Learning to read social cues quickly and adjust movement safely around others.

Respect, Inclusion & Community Contribution

This game reinforces respectful behaviour by:

  • Encouraging students to create an inclusive, fun environment where everyone contributes to the success of the game.
  • Promoting fairness and turn-taking through the role of the student in the middle and the movement cycle.
  • Supporting inclusive play where all students participate equally and feel valued in a shared class activity.

Communication, Collaboration & Active Listening

Students develop key communication skills by:

  • Listening closely to verbal cues (fruit names) and responding accurately and quickly.
  • Collaborating with peers as they navigate seat changes safely and help maintain the rhythm of the game.
  • Strengthening non-verbal communication as they move through the circle and negotiate space with classmates.

Problem-Solving, Critical Thinking & Decision-Making

This game enhances thinking skills by:

  • Requiring quick recall of assigned fruit names and rapid decision-making about where to move.
  • Encouraging students to strategise subtly (e.g., scanning seat options before moving).
  • Prompting flexible thinking when rules shift, particularly during “fruit basket turnover” when everyone must adapt instantly.

Well-being, Engagement & Physical Activity

Fruit Fun Mover promotes well-being by:

  • Providing high-energy physical movement that boosts mood, focus, and overall engagement.
  • Offering an outlet for positive physical expression, helping reduce stress and increase joy.
  • Reinforcing the connection between movement, social connection, and emotional well-being.

Written Activities

My Happy Helpers

My Happy Helpers invites students to reflect on the many people who have supported, encouraged, or guided them throughout the year. By thinking about family members, friends, teachers, coaches, or even everyday helpers like shop staff, students begin to recognise the countless small (and big!) acts of kindness that have shaped their experiences. This reflection encourages gratitude and helps students connect the dots between being helped and feeling valued, supported, and cared for. Through drawing or writing, students explore these meaningful moments and the positive impact others have had on them.

The activity also encourages students to consider how they can pay kindness forward. By thinking about how helping others makes them feel, and how their actions can brighten someone’s day, students develop empathy and a deeper understanding of the role they play in creating a positive, caring community. Treasure Hunt Run

Treasure Hunt Run turns the simple joy of running into a fast-paced adventure where students dash around the play area collecting scattered treasures. As they race between stations, they practise speed, agility, and coordination, all while working out the quickest way to gather items and return them to their base. Each treasure they collect adds excitement and a little strategy as their opposing team later completes the physical challenges connected to those items. Whether they’re sprinting, balancing objects, or planning their next move, students stay fully engaged in an energetic challenge that mixes fitness with problem-solving.

Once the hunt ends, the treasures transform into a mini workout circuit, giving each team a burst of movement based on what their opponents discovered. This playful twist keeps everyone active and laughing, while also promoting teamwork, communication, and creative strategy. Treasure Hunt Run is adaptable for individuals or teams and works beautifully indoors or outdoors. Gratitude / Giving

Thank You Song

Thank You Song is a joyful, music-filled gratitude activity that turns appreciation into something fun, creative, and wonderfully memorable. Students work in pairs or small groups to write their own thank-you song or contribute a verse to a whole-class song, using a simple, familiar tune. As they brainstorm lyrics, practise their melodies, and even add little dance actions, students discover how uplifting it feels to express gratitude through music. The shared singing builds confidence, strengthens classroom connection, and transforms simple “thank yous” into a heartfelt celebration.

Once the songs are ready, students perform them for the class, radiating positivity and showing appreciation in a way that feels playful and genuine. They can even choose someone special, like a friend, teacher, or family member, to sing their thank-you song to, extending the activity beyond the classroom and spreading even more joy.
