Connection Activity

Jump Spin Shot

Objective:

A dynamic and engaging warm-up icebreaker activity that combines physical movement with quick mental math. The goal is to quickly calculate the product of numbers both players show after a jump and spin.

Players:

Played in pairs, suitable for any group size by having multiple pairs participate simultaneously.

Materials:

No materials are needed, just enough space for participants to safely jump and spin.

Setup:

Pairs of participants stand back-to-back, ready for the jump and spin sequence.

Gameplay:
  • Jump and Spin: Participants count down from three. On "one," both players jump, completing a 180-degree turn, shouting "jump" and "spin" during the action.
  • Number Showdown: Upon landing, each player shouts "shot" and simultaneously extends one hand with one to five fingers showing.
  • Calculation and Scoring: The first player to correctly multiply the total number of fingers shown by both players wins the round and earns a point.
  • Example: If one player shows three fingers and the other five, the correct answer is 15.
  • Game Duration: Set a time limit, and the player with the most points at the end is crowned the champion.
Options for Play:
  1. Points System: Play for points, with the winner of each round earning one point.
  2. Fitness Challenge: The winner of each round earns a point and holds a static position (like a plank, squat, or wall sit), while the loser performs a short run (20-50 meters). This adds a fitness element to the game.
Winning the Game:

The player with the highest score at the end of the set time is declared the winner.

Variations for Different Settings:
  • Children's Edition: Simplify the math element or add fun actions.
  • Fitness Edition: Intensify the physical challenge, increasing the run's distance or the static hold's difficulty.
  • Team-Building Edition: Foster teamwork by having pairs work together to quickly come up with the answer.
Additional Notes:
  • This game energises a group and breaks the ice with laughter and movement.
  • It combines physical activity with mental agility, making it a well-rounded warm-up.
  • Encourage a lively atmosphere to maximise fun and engagement.

Six's for the Win

Objective:

A team-based dice game combining fitness challenges with the strategy of rolling dice to create winning combinations. Teams aim to accumulate as many points as possible by completing burpees during "lucky six minutes" or achieving dice combos for points.

Players:

Played in pairs or small teams.

Materials:
  • Five six-sided dice for each team.
  • A list of exercises for teams to complete between rolls.
Setup:

Gameplay:
  • Rolling for Combinations: Teams roll all five dice, attempting to match combinations for points, similar to a slot machine.
  • Fitness Challenges: Whether teams achieve a combo or not, they complete the next exercise on the list. The faster they complete the exercises, the more opportunities they have to roll the dice.
  • Scoring: Teams earn points based on the dice combinations or through the "lucky six minutes":
    • Rolling three sixes grants one minute of burpees, with each burpee equaling one point.
    • Four sixes earn two minutes of burpees.
    • Five sixes allow for three minutes of unlimited burpee points.
  • Game Continuation: After completing exercises, teams roll again, working down the exercise list for ten reps each time.
Winning the Game:

At the end of the game, the team with the highest combined number of burpees (points) wins.

Variations for Different Settings:
  • Fitness Edition: Adjust the intensity and type of exercises to match participants' fitness levels.
  • Educational Edition: Incorporate educational elements, like math challenges related to the dice rolls.
  • Team Building Edition: Emphasise teamwork and strategy in achieving dice combos and completing fitness challenges.

  • "Six's for the Win" is an energetic and engaging game that combines the excitement of dice rolling with the physical challenge of burpees and other exercises.
  • It encourages teamwork, strategic thinking, and physical fitness.
  • The game is adaptable to different group sizes and fitness levels, making it suitable for various settings.

Players:

Playable in pairs or small teams of 3 to 4 members.

Gameplay:
  • Dice Rolling: At the home station, participants roll the dice to determine which cone to run to.
  • Exercise Execution: They run to the corresponding cone and perform one repetition of the assigned exercise.
  • Increasing Repetitions: After returning to the home station and rolling again, the number of reps increases by one each round.
