The School of Play Curriculum
Kindergarten

Week Eight brings together listening skills, creativity, resilience, and movement through a playful mix of imaginative tasks and physical challenges. The week begins with Simon Says with a Twist, a lively listening game that strengthens students’ coordination, self-control, and ability to follow instructions while adding fun, creative movements. Students then shift into thoughtful self-expression with Animal I Would Be, drawing and describing an animal they admire, which helps them explore personal qualities, imagination, and communication in a supportive environment.
The week continues with full-body engagement through The Amazing Bank Robbery, an exciting story-driven fitness adventure that encourages students to act, move, and imagine their way through each challenge. To finish, students participate in Resilience Rock Toss, a reflective activity where they share moments of perseverance and celebrate their own growth. Together, these activities nurture confidence, self-expression, emotional awareness, and physical development. Week Eight creates a dynamic environment where students can use their imagination, strengthen important life skills, and connect with their peers, all through joyful, active play.

Weekly Lessons
Simon Says with a Twist
Simon Says with a Twist is a fun, energetic take on the classic game, designed to boost listening skills, focus, and physical coordination. Students must listen carefully for the magic words, “Simon says”, before hopping, crawling, dancing, or stretching in imaginative ways. The twist comes from the creative movement prompts, allowing students to act like animals, athletes, or characters as they practise following instructions. This playful structure helps students build self-control while staying fully engaged in movement and expression.
Throughout the game, students strengthen their ability to pay close attention, regulate their actions, and move their bodies in new and exciting ways. Whether they’re balancing, jumping, or pretending to swim, the challenge of only responding when “Simon says” makes the experience both hilarious and educational. Simon Says with a Twist is a brilliant way to encourage listening, creativity, and coordination, all wrapped up in an enjoyable game that students love.
What Animal I Would Be
What Animal I Would Be is a creative and imaginative activity that encourages students to explore the animal kingdom while reflecting on the personal qualities they admire. By choosing an animal they would like to be and drawing it with meaningful details, students strengthen their animal recognition skills and tap into imaginative thinking. Whether it’s the bravery of a lion, the speed of a cheetah, the gentleness of a deer, or the wisdom of an owl, this activity helps children connect with traits they find inspiring and express those ideas through art.
After drawing their chosen animal, students share why they selected it, developing confidence in speaking and self-expression. As they listen to their peers explain their choices, they also practise active listening and appreciation for others’ perspectives. What Animal I Would Be is a delightful blend of creativity, reflection, and communication, helping students express who they are (or who they hope to be) through the wonderful world of animals.

The Amazing Bank Robbery
The Amazing Bank Robbery is an action-packed movement adventure that turns students into the stars of their own thrilling escape story. As they sprint from the bank, dodge laser beams, hide behind walls, leap into icy water, and swim to safety, students follow a dynamic storyline filled with high-energy fitness challenges. Each part of the adventure is matched with a fun physical movement, planks, lunges, mountain climbers, squat jumps, burpees, keeping students fully engaged while boosting strength, coordination, and cardiovascular fitness.
With imagination at the centre of the experience, students pretend to be robbers on the run, using stealth, speed, and creativity to outsmart the police and make their daring escape. The immersive narrative encourages them to stay active while having fun, transforming exercise into play. The Amazing Bank Robbery is the perfect mix of storytelling, physical activity, and excitement, an unforgettable adventure that gets every student moving, laughing, and fully absorbed in the action.
Resilience Rock Toss
Resilience Rock Toss is a powerful, reflective activity that helps students recognise and celebrate their own resilience. As they gently toss a soft rock or beanbag into a bucket, they share a positive lesson they've learned from a time when they didn’t give up. Whether it was falling off a bike, trying again after making a mistake, or practising something difficult until it became easier, this game encourages students to acknowledge their strength, persistence, and personal growth. The combination of movement and reflection keeps the activity engaging while promoting emotional awareness and confidence.
After each toss, students listen to and celebrate each other's stories, creating a supportive environment where resilience is valued and shared. By using phrases like “I kept trying” or “I didn’t give up,” students learn to express their experiences in positive, empowering ways. Resilience Rock Toss is a simple yet meaningful activity that helps students build a mindset of perseverance, recognise their inner strength, and understand that challenges can help them grow.
