The School of Play Curriculum
Kindergarten

Week Six brings together creativity, self-regulation, teamwork, and kindness through a playful mix of movement, imagination, and reflection. Students begin with Musical Statues, a lively activity that strengthens listening skills, mindfulness, and self-control as they dance freely and freeze on cue. They then move into My Family and Me, a gentle drawing experience that helps children reflect on the special people in their lives, share meaningful family moments, and build confidence in communicating about their relationships.
The week then shifts into active storytelling with Sports Adventure Story, an energetic, movement-rich experience where students become part of a sports-themed adventure using their imagination to bring each exercise to life. To finish the week, students spread kindness through Kindness Coupons, creating small, meaningful acts of generosity to share with classmates, teachers, or family members. Together, these activities help children express themselves creatively, practise empathy, build social confidence, and stay active, all while nurturing a positive, caring classroom environment grounded in teamwork, imagination, and kindness.

Weekly Lessons
Musical Statues
Musical Statues is a lively and engaging movement game that helps students practise key skills such as listening, self-control, and body awareness. As the music plays, students are encouraged to dance freely, exploring creative movement and expressing themselves with energy and joy. When the music suddenly stops, students must freeze instantly, holding their pose like a statue. This simple freeze-and-move pattern helps young learners strengthen their ability to listen closely, respond to cues, and regulate their bodies in a fun and supportive way.
As the game continues, students experiment with new dance styles, silly moves, and imaginative poses, building confidence and coordination while staying fully engaged. The playful mix of music, movement, and quick reactions creates an atmosphere of excitement and laughter, making Musical Statues a fantastic energiser for any group. It encourages mindfulness, creativity, and focus, all while students simply feel like they’re having a dance party.
My Family and Me
My Family and Me is a warm and meaningful drawing activity that encourages students to think about the people who are important to them and the special relationships they share. By drawing themselves alongside their family members, students develop a sense of belonging while expressing their creativity through illustration. This simple act of drawing helps them reflect on who makes up their family, whether it’s parents, siblings, grandparents, or other loved ones, and allows them to visually celebrate the people who support, care for, and love them.
Once their drawings are complete, students share the fun activities they enjoy doing with their families, building confidence in verbal expression and fostering positive social interaction within the group. As students listen to one another’s stories, they begin to appreciate the diversity of family structures and traditions, creating a deeper sense of community and understanding. My Family and Me is a beautiful way to strengthen emotional connection, promote communication, and celebrate the people who make each child feel safe, happy, and loved.

Sports Adventure Story
Sports Adventure Story is an energetic, imagination-fuelled movement adventure that takes students on a whirlwind journey through some of the most iconic sporting moments in history. As they travel from the icy tracks of the Jamaican bobsled team to the giant waves surfed by Kelly Slater, students perform matching physical movements that bring each scene to life. The blend of storytelling and fitness keeps students fully engaged while improving coordination, strength, and endurance. Each new sporting destination introduces a fresh action, planks, bicycle crunches, squat jumps, sprinting, and more, encouraging students to stay active while imagining themselves as world-class athletes.
The adventure continues as students row the Thames for the Oxford–Cambridge Boat Race, tackle mountain climbers up Mount Everest, and finish with a high-energy sprint alongside Usain Bolt. Throughout the story, students are encouraged to step into the shoes of sporting heroes, building confidence, creativity, and a sense of fun in every movement. Sports Adventure Story is an exciting, story-driven workout that boosts physical fitness while sparking imagination, making it the perfect whole-class energiser, fitness warm-up, or end-of-session movement blast.
Kindness Coupons
Kindness Coupons is a heartwarming activity that encourages students to think about the positive actions they can offer to others. By creating their own kindness coupons, each representing a simple, meaningful act such as giving a hug, helping a friend, or offering a compliment, students are guided to reflect on the power of kindness in everyday life. As they design and decorate their coupons, they tap into both creativity and empathy, thinking carefully about the acts that could brighten someone else’s day.
Once the coupons are created, students share them with classmates, teachers, or family members, strengthening their communication and social interaction skills. Giving and receiving a kindness coupon becomes a simple yet powerful exchange that builds connection, gratitude, and a sense of community. Kindness Coupons transforms kindness into something tangible and actionable, helping students understand that even small gestures can make a big difference.
