The School of Play Curriculum
Kindergarten

Week Four continues to build independence, emotional awareness, creativity, and joyful movement through a vibrant mix of colour exploration, imaginative play, and gratitude. Students begin with Colour Hunt, a fun and energetic scavenger-style activity that strengthens colour recognition while encouraging independence and teamwork as they search for objects around the room. They then shift into gentle emotional reflection with My Happy Place, drawing the places where they feel safe, calm, and joyful, helping children connect to their feelings and express them in a creative, comforting way.
The week then moves into full-body imaginative play with Tour De France Bike Race, an adventure that turns fitness exercises into a playful story, helping students build coordination, stamina, and confidence through movement. To finish the week, students dive into kindness and creativity through Thank You Cards, expressing appreciation for someone special in their lives while practising drawing, writing, and emotional reflection. Together, these experiences strengthen cognitive skills, empathy, physical fitness, and positive emotional expression, all while creating a classroom culture filled with gratitude, creativity, teamwork, and fun.

Weekly Lessons
Colour Hunt
Colour Hunt is a fun, active, and engaging way for students to explore colour recognition while moving around their environment. As they search the room or playground for objects that match a chosen colour, children strengthen their ability to identify and name colours in a hands-on, playful way. The activity encourages independence as students take initiative in finding items on their own, while also promoting creativity and curiosity as they search high, low, and everywhere in between.
Whether working solo or with a partner, students practise teamwork, communication, and verbal expression as they bring their items back and proudly share what they found. Each round reinforces learning while keeping the energy high and the activity joyful. Colour Hunt is a simple yet powerful game that blends movement, exploration, and learning, helping students build confidence, collaborate with others, and deepen their understanding of colours through play.
My Happy Place
My Happy Place is a gentle, meaningful activity that invites students to explore and express the emotions connected to feeling safe, calm, and joyful. By drawing a place where they feel happiest, whether it’s home, a favourite park, the beach, or even a cosy corner of their room, students tap into their sense of security and comfort. This simple drawing exercise encourages children to reflect on the environments that support their well-being, helping them identify what brings them peace and happiness.
After creating their artwork, students have the opportunity to share their happy place with the group, explaining what makes it special. This builds emotional awareness, strengthens verbal expression, and creates a warm sense of community as classmates learn about one another’s safe and joyful spaces. My Happy Place blends creativity, reflection, and connection, making it a powerful activity for nurturing young students’ emotional development in a supportive and uplifting way.

Tour De France Bike Race
Tour De France Bike Race is an exciting, imagination-fuelled movement adventure that gets students riding through a story as if they’re real cyclists in the world’s biggest race. As the instructor narrates the journey, students pedal, duck, jump, dodge, and stretch their way through hills, branches, flat tyres, potholes, sharp turns, spectators, and even a big crash on the road. Each part of the race connects to a fun physical movement, helping students build coordination, fitness, and listening skills while letting their imagination run wild.
Throughout the adventure, students pretend they’re real riders tackling each challenge on the course, creating a sense of excitement and teamwork as the whole group races toward the finish line together. The game blends creativity with fitness, giving students a chance to move energetically while being fully immersed in the story. Tour De France Bike Race is the perfect way to spark joy, movement, and imagination in any classroom or gym setting.
Thank You Cards
Thank You Cards is a heartfelt activity that encourages students to slow down, reflect, and show appreciation for the special people in their lives. By creating their own thank-you card, students engage in meaningful gratitude practice, thinking about someone who has helped them, supported them, or made them feel happy. As they draw, decorate, and write their message, they develop fine motor skills while expressing their feelings in a creative, personal way.
Once the cards are complete, students are invited to share who their card is for and why that person is important to them. This creates a warm, positive atmosphere where kindness is celebrated and appreciation is openly expressed. Thank You Cards is a beautiful way to build emotional awareness, strengthen relationships, and help students understand the joy that comes from giving thanks.
